Small, handy and powerful
I did not take much of a chance with Standard Horizon and was not displeased. Very well made, small, powerful. Will accompany me on the kayak without being obtrusive or inconvenient. Easy to operate, has all the buttons well placed for on-handed operation. Will enjoy the. safety as I paddle.

Get one
This is a great basic radio, and the radio lasts forever. I am a kayaker, so I want to upgrade to a DSC radio. I will be buying a Standard Horizon for myself, and this radio will continue to be used by visiting friends and family.

Works well
Bought this for kayak fishing and it has worked well. It has good range and sounds clear. It will also play the radio if you want. Took a few minutes to get the menu setting right.

Waste of money. This is the second one I boght. This one didn’t even last a year.I baby these , keep them clean , use them 2-3 hours a day 5 days a week. They just don’t last.Same thing , they work a little while , then stop charging or won’t hold a charge.Hoping I can get a refund as I don’t want another one.3yr warranty , and they last around 6 months.

Unbeliveable value for marine radio
Part 1. SIZE and PortabilityWow….. Here is my first impressions on HX210. First thing It’s unbelievable that this radio is MADE IN JAPAN for under $100 !!! I have not seen electronics from Japan for this price for 20 years now! Also as result this radio comes with 3 year warranty which is rather unusual for consumer product. So quality and water sealing has to be top notch that makes me believe that I own very reliable product,Secondly, I was interested in how portable this radio is compared to others that I have. I owned multiple radios over time from FRS radios to Business radios. So based on single HX210 pictures it was hard to judge how small or portable it actually is. Finally, when I received it, my feel is that it’s pretty big and bulky and not exactly portable in comparison. You can see on my picture, Marine COBRA HH100(white) and the BAOFENG (that lots of people are familiar with) are much smaller. Aside from the performance differences, comparing only by size, I consider COBRA and BAOFENG small and portable radios. HX210 IS NOT. Old Marine Cobra is not submersible, 1W power running on 4 AAA batteries, Cobra is intended to be placed in waterproof bag in order to float or be submerged. Unfortunately, Cobra’s bag also muffles sound and makes it almost unusable in the real world. Performance-wise is not on comparable with the HX210 of course. Motorola HT1250 business radio is roughly same size as HX210 to give you an idea, albeit HX210 is lighter. Relatively Large size is to make it float as part of its design. Its problematic to clip HX210 on your lifejacket for paddle board or kayak, as its size will always be in your way getting hit by the paddle or your own hand movements. I just clip it to the paddle board itself.

Works great
Everything works perfect. We ordered two of these. You can use them when backing the trailer in the water or use as long distance walkie talkies.

Good range for a handheld
Easy to set up and easy to use. Good range for a handheld VHF unit. The FM band is an added plus. It replaced a 12-year-old West Marine handheld. Very pleased.

Turns on/off randomly when in PFD pocket
I bought this for use in a pocket of my Personal Flotation Device while kayaking. It fits nicely, but power turns on and off spontaneously by pocket’s pressure on the power switch. The VHF turns on and off randomly while in the PFD pocket. It’s unusable for what I needed it for.

Quality and full of features
Bought my last one in 2013 but it was recently stolen. This is full of features. Great sounding FM band. Will take a while to understand how to access all. Mine is version 2.049 and wondering if there has been an update. Too bad that the serial number is only on the box. Would be nice if it popped up with software version on the home page. Great NOAA weather reception.

WARNING DO NOT BUY!!!
Radios battery quit just over a year. Sent it back to Standard Horizon since it was under warranty and haven’t heard a word since. Do NOT trust this company. Had to file a complaint with BBB.
