Cobra VHF Radio with Bluetooth
Great reception at distance up to line-of-sight. The bluetooth works extremely well. Radio is on deck when fishing while phone is safely tucked away.

Very disappointed. Have been a sailor since the seventies
Very disappointed. Have been a sailor since the seventies. Used all kind of marine radios. The Cobra MRHH500FLTBT ”water proof /submersible” gave out in one rainstorm. Totally unreliable radio. And yes I do know how to properly seal all the compartments. -10 on my list. Will never rely on Cobra products again.

DO NOT BUY!!!!
unit stopped working after 8 months, unit was returned back to Cobra under the 3 year warranty. Cobra declined warranty as they no longer service this model and request that I pay $67.00 for a replacement. NO THANKS COBRA!!! I will never purchase a Cobra product again.

Most important item in your gear.
Very easy to use. I had been going ocean kayak fishing for a couple of years when I met another kayaker who asked if I had an emergency radio. I did not, and after thinking about it, realized that besides a PFD – this was another life saving device that I shouldn’t be on the ocean without. Works and looks great. I can now monitor the marine weather conditions and forecast, as well as call the Coast Guard in an emergency. I shouldn’t have gone out without this one piece of safety equipment.

Keep your cell phone dry!
I’ve only used this product once, but it lasted all day on the open ocean and was unaffected by getting completely wet from waves splashing over my kayak. I did receive a couple phone calls, so I got to test out the bluetooth feature. That seemed to work well, although the other party said that some of the things I said were cut off at the beginning. I had it in VOX mode, instead of PTT, so I will try the PTT mode next time I go out to see if that makes a difference. Either way, having my phone down in the hull inside a waterproof box instead of chancing getting it wet or lost is definitely a huge benefit to this radio. The range is pretty decent – I was picking up people from a couple miles away. The display looks good in direct sunlight, which is a plus. All being said, I would definitely recommend this radio to anyone looking for a little extra safety with the added convenience of bluetooth while out on the open water.

Great VHF radio – perfect for paddlers
Never take my kayak out on the ocean without it. It does float with the rechargeable battery pack, but the pack with the AAs will not float. I’ve been using it for close to 2 years now and still works great. Bluetooth is a nice function when I’m not in areas where I’m monitoring the appropriate channels, since you have to toggle to that function and can’t monitor channels and use Bluetooth device same time (at least with a phone / media playing that’s how it appeared to work). Weather alerts work prefectly as well, awesome feature I wouldn’t do without. Charging station is nice to have, doesn’t take long to charge and seems to be holding pretty well still, I do keep it at the lowest range and volume settings to conserve power, and have only had it run out on me once or twice or longer trips, but with the extra AAs pack you should never have a real problem.

works great, heard reviews about volume
USE OFFSHORE KAYAK FISHING, 2-5 miles off shoreFor the price this little guy has tons of pluses, works great, heard reviews about volume; well must have been a different model or a bad unit. BLU tooth is a really nice feature. Great battery life, and when shut off the stand by battery life is amazing.Comes with;Clip mount or lanyardRechargeable batteryAdditional AA battery backWall charger that converts to a mobile charger, with a spacer to charge individual battery packs****Now for the only fault I have a real issue with. The attaching clip seems very frail, I use caution when attached to my PFD, that’s the only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star.Model MRHH500FLTBT

Great for the money
Great Marine radio. My wife and I use them for Kayaking and I keep one in my boat when I fish. I live in-land so there’s not much Marine coverage here but the Bluetooth feature makes it all worth while. It works VERY well. I can take calls on the radio NO problem while my cellphone is in a dry case. If I had it to do over (simply because I live inland and fish mainly on a lake where there is minimal marine traffic) I would have bought the one with GMRS coverage also. more versatile if you fish with other people who don’t have marine radios. All in all it’s well worth the money.

Perfect for kayak or boating
I’m new to kayaking, but I’m super careful when it comes to being in the water. My friends want us to get talkies, but just the Bluetooth option on this bad boy makes it a super necessity in my book. I put my galaxy note 2 in a waterproof case between my legs in case I do want to dial out (the one small downer). Its not just waterproof (they will replace in case it fails), it floats so I know it will be with me when I need it. My wife, kids, or and emergency call, I hit the answer and keep paddling while having a clear and loud conversation and I’m not worried about my expensive cell in case I go in. Battery life its out of this planet. Buy it!

It is very clear and has good battery life
Works really well as a radio. It is very clear and has good battery life. The bluetooth mode is nice to have, but doesn’t work as well as I’d hoped. On automatic mode, it doesn’t filter out background noise well. It works on manual mode where you press the talk button to talk on your phone and have the conversation like a radio conversation. That’s a bit awkward, though.

Easy to use.
A winner. Light, easy to use, but reading the instructions are a must. If you take it slow and follow scanning, channels 16/9 directions and the weather, you can figure this radio out quickly. I haven’t worked on the Bluetooth yet, but as easy as the other items were to figure out, I don’t think I will have a problem. Signals come in clear and the two methods of charging make this a very useable compact handheld. For the price, $114, complete, this offers everything I need in a portable radio. This radio is small, with a large, readable screen that can fit in a pocket.

I bought two of these in early 2017 and they have both died. I tried replacing the battery on one and that would not charge. I recommend spending more for a better product!

Cool features, but low volume prohibits use in anything but a silent environment.
Was really hoping these would work out. Wanted to keep our phone in a pelican box and use these radios on the boat. Hoping to use the BT connection to answer any calls. Did not work out. The volume on the radios is very low so it does not work in a marine environment. We bought external speaker/mics to see if that would help, but it did not. Potentially these could be fantastic radios that would be perfect for weekend boaters or for out on the lake. Unfortunately, low volume limits their use. We were SAILING and could not hear it under sail unless we held it to our ear. …and that is with the volume turned all the way up. (We were tested for hearing loss about 6mos ago and neither of us have any hearing loss.)Sent them back.

Bluetooth is gimmicky (unable to use this unit as BT “speakerphone” (which would be incredibly useful when phone is stowed)
Light, floats, tri-scan very convenient. Unfortunately, Bluetooth is gimmicky (unable to use this unit as BT “speakerphone” (which would be incredibly useful when phone is stowed). Unit can only use as BT audio speaker, but volume is too weak to enjoy music.

Every sailor needs this!
I sail, and I’m very happy with this radio. It gets good, clear reception out on Puget Sound. The bluetooth feature is great because I can leave my iPhone below and just keep this radio with me. The battery seems to last a good long time — on for 2 days and still pretty full. But, the best feature, by far, is the repeat feature. Not sure what the Coast Guard just said? Were they hailing you, or somebody else? BOOM! Now you know.

I am very happy with this
I am very happy with this. I use it on the boat to supplement my main unit. And keep it in the house many times as it makes a handy emr alert weather radio. The only issue is I left it in on the boat dash in the sun and it would not come back on. reseated the battery after it cooled down and it worked again. I world recommend this

Product is worthless. Amazon is horrible for not backing the product they sell.
I am very dissatisfied with the Cobra MR H500. Bought 2, when received 1 worked, the other did not. Tried to return the one that did not work back to Amazon. Amazon would NOT except the radio back. They told us to contact Cobra with the issue. Cobra has not done anything to warranty the radio or try to make it right. I do not recommend this radio or purchasing it from Amazon. Amazon really has disappointed me for not standing behind the product they sell. Very dissatisfied customer ????

Terrible receiving, Friends told me my trans was good
1st radio I sent back thinking just a fluke. Terrible receiving, Friends told me my trans was good. Weather band was great.2nd radio receiving was better , but compared to their radios, I was missing the 1st, 1sec of receiving there trans.. Weather band is great. SUCKS! I need it for good communication with them. Hopefully I can get my money back again, and find a good radio.Any suggestions? Friends have all older radios like my old reliable, Hummingbird ( batt. pack went bad & ac cord is bad ) .they don’t make radios any more.

Toy radio. Returning it
A toy, not a marine radio. The reception is horrible, as tested going out with another radio. The speaker is too quiet, even at the max. Squelch even in the lowest setting filters out a lot of transmissions. The belt clip is very soft, so expect it to fall, and the strap can only be attached to the belt clip, which is already a weak point.I thought Bluetooth was a nice addition, but this is just not a solid radio for a boat. Returning it.

I should have stayed with higher-end units from ICOM or West Marine!
I spent today on the water trying to use my day-old VHF. It was a very unpleasant experience! As prior posters complained, it was essentially impossible to hear the radio’s internal speaker over ANY engine noise… The makes this radio essentially unusable!!Secondly, having owned many brand-name, portable VHF’s from names like ICOM, the controls on this radio are far too illogical, and don’t follow more typical VHF radio from brands with better reputations.I suppose “I don’t like it” doesn’t qualify for a return via my Prime status; but if I could… I would.Oh, I gave up on this radio well before trying the bluetooth, so can’t comment on that feature and squelch, and three-station scanning eluded me all day.
