Quit working in a year/warranty team at uniden is awful
Worked great while it worked. I bought it one year ago, used it for two months right after purchase and put it away for a year, only to bring it back pit this year and it has intermittent transmission issues, as well as the speaker only working part of the time. I thought I’d be against a 1 star review but plugged in the exact same model radio to troubleshoot and it had the SAME EXACT issue, only worse. Warranty department at Uniden is very slow if they even answer you, as of now I’ve been ghosted for a week. In the only response in one week they then told me to not buy from amazon because its an uncertified third party seller. I sent it in anyway for warranty and it has been there for four days days and no word yet. I’ve always used and trusted Uniden products and had great luck but their terrible warranty service will be the reason I find another brand.

Decent VHF for the money.
Bought 5 of these for my fleet of tow boats. 4 out of 5 stars due to 4 out of 5 radios lasting longer than a few months. They all work great except one. That one after 2 months the speaker would work sometimes and then not work at all randomly. The other 4 haven’t had any issues at all. Probably a defect or something is loose inside. Need to send it back. They transmit clearly, are pretty loud when volume is cranked all the way up. The multi channel scan feature is very nice if you only have one radio and want to listen to multiple stations. If you through dash mount it (like I did) make sure you buy the mounting push brackets for it which are sold seperately. Overall a decent VHF for the price.

speaker doesnt work
this unit worked great for 10 months and then the speaker went out. i sent to uniden for warranty and they where fast to replace the speaker and ship back. 2 months after that the speaker went out again. this unit does not have a 3.5mm jack on the back to hook an external speaker up and i can not find an adapter to make a external work. i am about to send back again but not happy at all! the rest of my buddy’s are using cobras with external speakers have no problems.

Good Choice
I was reluctant to purchase this unit because of other reviews, but the price made it worth trying, and Amazon has excellent return policy if it did not work. I loosened the spring action on the mike bracket due to reports of a weak plastic mike fitting. I feel a fix must have been made and I saw no weakness with the mike. I installed the radio and a 42″ antenna on my pontoon boat, launched at the St Johns River, 26 miles from me, requested a radio check, and received a clear response on ch 16. Several miles into my voyage I requested a RR bridge opening on ch 09 and was told I was heard loud and clear. I received various wx stations clearly. I don’t like the channel selection method, but I can live with that. Happy with my choice.

So far so good
Have only used it a couple times for coyote hunting. Can pick people up pretty far and comes in clear. only bad thing is the fuse that was in there blew before I even used it. not sure what happened so I put a good fuse in and works good.

I got a year out of it.
I used this VHF on my fishing boat. It worked well for the past year (1 fishing trip per week) then just died. Started by giving me an error of “low battery” (while connected to my boats power supply) last week and refused to power up this week. I have checked for low voltage supply etc. But all the connections are firing perfectly.Oh well, I would not recommend this radio.

Waterproof?
It arrived quickly. I installed it and it worked great the first time out. On the way back in from fishing the wind had picked up and it got a little sporty for my 16′ boat and I was fairly soaked by the time I got back. The next weekend I turned it on, got the initial beep it does when you turn it on. All day on the boat it never once received any call or weather information on triple scan. Figured it was not receiving. I used my handheld Cobra VHF radio that I was using before and tried to see if it would transmit or receive calls and it wouldn’t. I had heard calls with my handheld from the weather and Coast Guard but not the Uniden. Now to go through the stuff with getting it shipped to them or sending me a new unit. Get the extended warranty!!!!

Great product and value.
This radio is compact and easy to mount also works great. It is a little hard to get used to compared to the old time radios. Have to do a lot of reading of the manual to get to know how to operate it properly.

NMEA 0183 directions clear as mud
Four days trying to connect and get working NMEA features. Directions are worse than worthless, they are impossible and will consume the rest of your life trying to figure them out. Trying to connect a Garmin unit that has only two wires no problem, think again.

Cheap but good for looks it would seem doesn’t work
Easy install sure however the antenna that it listed came with came separately almost as if the seller chose it and included a 3 party purchase on my behalf to ship to me if I bought this radio. However nothing seems to work , I’d consider myself a professional installer also for the record. And nothing works no reception on 9 or 16 very odd

Uniden vhf is junk! Tech support suggested going online and shop other manufactures for solution.
Requires external GPS reciever that is no longer available. The GPS reciever model is actually printer on the out side of the box as additional accessories available but good luck finding one! Seller images missed that when posting pictures. Uniden does not respond!! Save your time and money and buy a different radio/brand! The cost of Trying to add a gps receiver to this radioI could have bought a Icom brand radio. Time money and aggravation it’s not worth it! Update! Finally uniden tech support on the phone they suggested contacting other companies on the internet to locate a receiver. Do not waste your time and money on Uniden!

This radio is the worst VHF radio I’ve ever used.
I bought this radio to be installed on my dinghy but decided it work better on my main boat after I waited 2+ months to get this installed due to Covid-19 protocols. Here are my issues:1) The radio has a non-functioning squelch that makes use of Ch”s 5A, 11, 14, 21A and 67 unusable since background noise is unbearable and makes broadcasts received unintelligible. Ch 5A, 11 and 14 are the VTS channels for the Puget Sound region.2) The radio does NOT handle DSC calls correctly since it doesn’t properly send out the required Ack response. I’ve checked this with two separate alternate radios. It also doesn’t properly respond to a DSC test call to the USCG. And yes the GPS is properly connected and it’s properly displaying GPS coordinates.3) Customer service is non-existent. I contacted them via email notifying them of these problems two weeks ago. After one week not hearing any response I sent a follow up message. This elicited an automatic response that “We’re working on your problem”. I sent out another two days ago and got the same automatic response. Ok so I decided to phone in my problem (willing to suffer through the inevitable wait). Well I received a “We’re sorry but we are shut down for training” message. Nothing about how long or even IF and when they might be available. So to summarize:Faulty equipment + non existent customer service translates into DO NOT BUY A UNIDEN RADIO. I’ve learned my lesson I will stick with ICOM or Standard Horizon VHF products in the future, the $50.00 difference is well worth it in savings of the costs of installing, diagnosing and resolving issues with the cheaper product.

Improperly wired for power hookup
Unit was improperly wired for the power hookup. A plugin is provided for positive and negative wire terminals but the only way to connect the plugin is to connect the red to black and black to red. When connecting to the battery, the fuse blows. To power the radio, I have to connect the red wire to a negative source and the black wire to a positive source.

Hard to read display during simple channel change.
Positives – it works and is not too costly.Negatives – over engineering of user menu system – especially during simple channel change. Hard to read small font channel “help” that pops up to give channel use conventions while just trying to use up/down arrows to get to desired channel. For heavens sake you geeky nerd designers – “Keep it Simple (stupid)”.The old radio simple/standard convention of just using up/down arrows to get to/from channel 16 now with this “New and Improved” radio invokes the hard-to-read pop-up channel convention screen that’s near impossible for older eyes to see the actual channel number until its selected. Absolutely ridiculous if you wear glasses and are getting pelted with rain water or sea spray with less than perfect vision. Give me a simple “Chan 16” preset button for gawd sakes rather than making me have to flip open the red emergency call flap cover and press or scroll through the ridiculous channel menu!!!What kind of idiots program device firmware using such ridiculous non common sense Human Factors Engineering?Again: KEEP IT SIMPLE!Also put in explicit instructions in manual for how to reset to factory settings so we can easily clear our personal Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI). It’s just STUPID to tell users that once they set up their MMSI (that pop’s up a stupid useless warning every time you power on if not programmed) that It’s permanent. As if an owner can’t sell the boat with radio to a new registrant and clear it??. Had to go search internet to find the obscure info from other owners posts about how to use the weird double key hold technique power-on-reset to force a NVM memory reset. User functions and button layout seems to be designed by nerds who never used a radio in their life in actual sea conditions.

pick me up?
installed this on my boat with a new 48″ antenna. First time I went out I called for a radio check and I came in loud and clear. It has a scan feature not like the older radios where you hit scan mode and if anyone is talking it will stop on that channel. This one you have to program the channels you want to scan by simply going to that station and holding down the scan button till it beeps, just like programing your car radio stations. The company sent it out quick and free, actually came sooner than expected. I gave it 4 starts because for some reason on the 3rd time I took the boat out there is a popping sound now. Not sure what’s causing that ill check my ground wires. Other than that its a good value for the money.
